The Aerin Project: Our Story and Mission

Aerin Rose Glaser was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.  She was a joyful, intelligent, and creative powerhouse. She had a deep love for sewing, fashion design, beadwork, jewelry making and drawing.  Above all, Aerin had a gift of making friends and forming deep connections with people.

At 13, Aerin was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. With courage and with the unwavering support of her family and friends, Aerin underwent various treatments while continuing to embrace life fully. She remained dedicated to school, traveled the world, and spread love and joy to those around her.

When her best friend Tilly left for college, Aerin gifted her a set of letters, each envelope labeled on the outside with specific instructions, like "Open when you need a boost" and "Open when you need inspiration." These letters were intended to inspire and uplift her best friend, and to give her support and encouragement.

Tilly treasured these letters. When Aerin passed away from cancer at the age of 18, in February 2024, the letters became even more precious. They served as an ongoing reminder of how powerful sincere support and friendship can be.

The Aerin Project continues Aerin’s mission of inspiration and encouragement, and broadens this goal: Through the Aerin Project, groups of people write letters to classmates, friends and colleagues—simply to inspire and bring joy to others, and to make the world a kinder, more positive place.
